D12, otherwise known as D-Tizzle is a hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan thatcame to notoriety when Eminem as one of its members was born as a superstar when in 1999 “The Slim Shady LP” topped the charts. Eminem chose to bring along the group upon the success of his solo career and signed on D12 as the first group on his own Shady Records label.
One fateful day D12 group member Bugz became involved in an altercation at a picnic and was killed after being shot three times. Eminem took the place ofBugs for a time to help D12 put on some shows, which resulted in Eminem eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 cut the track “The Good Die Young” on “D12 World” in memory of Bugs, Bugs was also memorialized on Eminem’s second album,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.
The success of D12 was sealed in 2001 when “Devil’s Night” debuted as number one on the Billboard charts. And, any question of their continued marketability was put to rest when their second album “D12 World” hit the Billboard number one spot as well in 2004. Even so, D12 continued to be overshadowed by Eminem’s success and fame as he was in the background with a hand in their productions. Eminem took no part in the tour for D12’s second album, in part, so D12 could show that they did not rely on Eminem for their success, but Eminem was also busy recording his own project “Encore”.
Plans for the new album were put on hold with the death of Proof. Rumours are that the new album should be released in early 2009. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
