The Detroit Twelve

D12, otherwise known as The Dirty Dozen is a hip hop band from Detroit, Michigan thatcame to notoriety when one of its members Eminem achieved stardom when in 1999 “The Slim Shady LP” topped the charts. Eminem did not forget his friends after his solo career took off and signed on D12 as the first group on the Shady Records label.

One sad day D12 group member Bugz was drawn into an altercation at a picnic and was shot three times and killed. Eminem stood in forBugs for a while to help D12 put on some shows, but this led to him eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 cut the track “The Good Die Young” on their second album “D12 World” in memory of Bugs, and Eminem dedicated his second album to Bugs,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.

D12’s success was sealed when in 2001 their first album “Devil’s Night” topped the Billboard charts at number one. And, their success continued as “D12 World” their second album debuted as number one on the Billboard charts in 2004. Even so, D12 continued to be overshadowed by Eminem’s success and fame as he continued to have a hand in producing these albums. Eminem took no part in the tour for D12’s second album, in part, so D12 could show that they did not rely on Eminem for their success, but as it happens Eminem was busy working on his album “Encore”.

D12’s newest album has had many false starts due to the death of Proof. Rumours are that the new album should be released in early 2009. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
