The Detroit Twelve

by on March 28, 2009

D12, otherwise known as The Detroit Twelve is a hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan thatcame to notoriety when Eminem as one of its members was born as a superstar with the 1999 release of “The Slim Shady LP”. Eminem chose to bring along his friends once his solo career took off and signed D12 as the first group for his own label Shady Records.

One sad day D12 group member Bugz became involved in an argument at a picnic and was killed after being shot three times. Eminem stood in forBugs for a time to help D12 put on some shows, but this led to him eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 laid down “The Good Die Young” on their second album “D12 World” to memorialize Bugs, Bugs was also memorialized on Eminem’s second album,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.

D12’s success was sealed when their first album “Devil’s Night” in 2001 hit the number one slot on the Billboard charts. And, any question of their continued marketability was put to rest when “D12 World” as their second album hit the Billboard number one spot as well in 2004. Even so, Eminem continued to overshadow D12 with his success and fame as he was in the background with a hand in their productions. D12 executed the tour for their second album without Eminem, in part, so D12 could demonstrate success apart from Eminem, but Eminem was also busy recording his own project “Encore”.

D12’s newest album has had many false starts due to the death of Proof. We will have to watch for news from the 2009 tour to see if the new album will be released soon. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
