D12, otherwise known as The Dirty Dozen is a hip hop collective from Detroit, Michigan thatbecame well known when Eminem as one of its members was launched to stardom when in 1999 “The Slim Shady LP” topped the charts. Eminem did not forget the group after his solo career took off and signed D12 on as the first group on the Shady Records label.
One unfortunate day D12 group member Bugz was drawn into a dispute at a picnic and was killed after being shot three times. Eminem stood in forBugs for a time to help D12 put on some shows, but this led to him eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 laid down “The Good Die Young” on their second album “D12 World” in Bugs’ memory, Eminem also memorialized Bugs on his second album,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.
The success of D12 was sealed when in 2001 their first album “Devil’s Night” hit the number one slot on the Billboard charts. And, any question of their continued marketability was put to rest as “D12 World” their second album debuted as number one on the Billboard charts in 2004. Even so, Eminem continued to overshadow D12 with his success and fame as he continued to have a hand in producing these albums. D12 executed the tour for their second album without Eminem, in part, so D12 could demonstrate success apart from Eminem, but Eminem was also busy recording his own project “Encore”.
Plans for the new album were put on hold with the death of Proof. We will have to watch for news from the 2009 tour to see if the new album will be released soon. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
