Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure employed to change the appearance or dimensions of the ear. The most common kind of otoplasty is commonly called “ear pinning” Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar. When the ears are sticking out too far from the head “ear pinning” is done to cause the ears to sit closer to the head. The general opinion is the younger the patient the better. Aslong as the ears are fully grown the procedure can be performed. Routinely, the ears have developed as much as they are going to by age four. The cartilage of young childrens’ ears is more supple and a superior result is achieved with the surgical operation. Otoplasty is completed on more mature patients also, but it is more difficult to sculpt the cartilage in adults’ ears.
Dr B Yazdanfar says “Ear pinning” is most commonly performed employing a local anesthetic along with a sedative. The surgeon makes an incision in the fold behind the ear. The surgeon will then shape skin and cartilage to construct the desired outcome and close the incisions with sutures. Commonly normal activities can be resumed one week when the sutures can be removed by Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar, and special care must be observed for the interval of about a month while healing progresses.
