Otoplasty is a procedure of cosmetic surgery utilized to change the form or size of the ear. The most common type of otoplasty is commonly referred to as “ear pinning” Dr B Yazdanfar. When the ears are sticking out too far from the head “ear pinning” is done to cause the ears to sit nearer to the head. The general opinion is that it is better if the patient is younger. Aslong as the ears are fully grown the surgery can be accomplished. Commonly, the ears have grown as much as they are going to by age four. The cartilage of younger patients’ ears is more workable and a superior outcome is achieved with the surgical operation. Otoplasty is completed on more mature patients also, but it is troublesome to mold the cartilage in adults’ ears.
Dr Behnaz says “Ear pinning” is commonly implemented employing a local anesthetic with a sedative. The surgeon makes an incision in the fold behind the ear. The surgeon will then shape skin and cartilage to create the desired effect and close the incisions with stitches.
