Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure employed to modify the shape or dimensions of the ear. The most frequently performed form of otoplasty is commonly called “ear pinning” Dr Yazdanfar. When the ears are protruding too far from the head “ear pinning” is performed to make them sit nearer to the head. The conventional wisdom is the younger the patient the better. Solong as the ears are fully formed the procedure can be accomplished. Usually, the ears have grown as much as they are going to by the age of four. The cartilage of younger patients’ ears is more tractable and a superior outcome is achieved with the procedure. Otoplasty is implemented on adults also, but it is harder to form the cartilage in adult ears.
Dr Yazdanfar says “Ear pinning” is usually performed using a local anesthetic along with sedation. The surgeon makes an incision in the crease behind the ear. The surgeon will then remove skin and cartilage to construct the desired result and close the incisions with sutures. Commonly usual activities can be resumed one week when the stitches can be taken out by Dr Behnaz, and particular care must be taken for about approximately a month while healing progresses.
