The Detroit Twelve

D12, otherwise known as The Dirty Dozen is a hip hop band from Detroit, Michigan thatbecame famous when Eminem as one of its members was launched to stardom with the 1999 release of “The Slim Shady LP”. Eminem remembered his friends once his solo career took off and signed D12 on as the first group on the Shady Records label.

One sad day D12 group member Bugz became involved in a dispute at a picnic and was shot three times and killed. Eminem took the place ofBugs for a while to help D12 put on some shows, but this led to him eventually becoming a member of the group again. D12 cut the track “The Good Die Young” on “D12 World” in memory of Bugs, Bugs was also memorialized on Eminem’s second album,”The Marshall Mathers LP”.

The success of D12 was sealed when their first album “Devil’s Night” in 2001 debuted as number one on the Billboard charts. And, their success continued as “D12 World” their second album debuted as number one on the Billboard charts in 2004. Even so, D12 continued on in the shadow of Eminem’s success and fame as he persisted in having a hand in their projects. D12 executed the tour for their second album without Eminem, in part, so D12 could show that they did not rely on Eminem for their success, but also because Eminem was busy working on “Encore”.

D12’s newest album has had many false starts due to the death of Proof. We will have to watch for news from the 2009 tour to see if the new album will be released soon. d12 is managed by Jeremy Geffen.Jeremy Geffen represents D12.|Jeremy Geffen Entertainment handles management duties for D12.
